Technology at SSPP
Enhanced technology integration efforts have also improved access to and effective utilization of data for remediation, intervention, and acceleration. The school has transitioned to a new Learning Management System (LMS) - Schoology. This tool provides an interactive learning experience for students, increased involvement and communication between parents and school, maximized accessibility and accountability for our community of learners, and serves as an avenue for additional student data for both educators and families. Further, the school transitioned from an ineffective summative style of evaluating students to formative benchmark testing through the use of Renaissance STARS 360. Students are now assessed at least three times per year, providing teachers and parents with immediate results aligned to state standards, which give a comprehensive picture of strengths and weaknesses. Faculty swiftly and efficiently identify areas of student deficiencies, providing early intervention in order to master skills and reach proficiency. STARS has proven to be another tool that provides instant data, but also serves as a means for transparency and open dialogue between parents and teachers.
In order to meet the diverse learning needs of our student population, there is both a Reading and Math Specialist. Furthermore, a Student Data and Technologist provides educators with effective instructional tools for differentiation, as well as assistance in analyzing student data and reports. This employee provides professional development that is relevant and practical to the immediate needs of the learning community. The Student Data and Technologist also trains parents and students to maximize their usage and comfort level with various innovative platforms.
Saints Peter & Paul Elementary School has a unique technology department that offers both technology basics and applications. This includes 3D printing as well as an integrated STREAM-based (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) hands-on curriculum, to students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. Our technology application is an activity-oriented program designed to challenge and engage the natural curiosity and imagination of all students. In our integrated program, students study terms, concepts, and data input strategies so that they can learn to make informed decisions about various technologies and their functions.
